About Us

Indianapolis Bahá'í Community

The Indianapolis Bahá'í community is composed of people from different races, nationalities, backgrounds, ages, and social classes. What we all share in common is our belief in Bahá'u'lláh, and His Teachings for a united and spiritualized world. We welcome the opportunity to have fellowship with souls from other Faiths, or no Faith. Whether or not you become a Bahá'í, we invite you to work with us to help build a more peaceful, spiritual, and unified world.

The Indianapolis Bahá'í Community is just one of thousands of communities worldwide whose members seek to follow and implement the message of Bahá'u'lláh. The diversity of our community is reflected in the many backgrounds, cultures, races, ages, and viewpoints represented in our members. We are active in serving humanity through core activities such as home visits, devotional meetings, firesides, children's classes, junior youth spiritual empowerment groups, and service to the local community.

Indianapolis Bahá'í Assembly

Activities are organized and guided by the Local Spiritual Assembly, which is a 9-person consultative body elected by the community each April.  The Indianapolis Bahá'í Assembly was first elected in 1932, and was incorporated in 1941.

Bahá'í Center

The Indianapolis Bahá'í Center, located at 3740 W. 62nd St., was completed in Oct. 2000.  Before that time, the Indianapolis Bahá'ís met in each others homes and in facilities rented for the various meetings, such as Feasts and Holy Days.  Even today, not every meeting occurs at the Center, and various meetings, including Feasts, study circles, and children's classes occur in other places throughout the city.  The Bahá'í Faith is not a congregational religion in the usual sense, and there are no compelling reasons to host every event at the Center.  Flexibility is the key.
